I <3 Poetry

I've always been interested in poetry, i cant even remember a time was not.  I started  (trying) to make my own when i was...uh...again, i don't remember a time did not. Going through some old stuff i recently found something i wrote when i was 12 or 13. Anyways, this blog is not about poetry i write. i usually don't pubish those. or even write them down very often. but when i do, that will probably end up on my personal blog. or maybe sometime i will put it here as well. i have actually published some stuff over there. 

So what exactly is this blog about?  Well this is also a personal project. meaning that i am doing this mostly for my own benefit. Here is what this is about:

Translated Poetry!

That is right, i am gonna post translated poetry. Translated in to English from different languages. Whose poetry? Anyone! any poem i like, or perhaps anything that i found interesting. They may not be the best poetry. I will put here anything that ive got a translation of. kinda.  This includes Qawwalis, Ghazals, Hindi Songs...and Punjabi, Persian, Bengali, Arabic...etc poetry.  It maybe popular romantic, folk, devotional, or philosophical poetry.

Who does the translations?

Well, i can only speak two languages. My mother tongue Mahal/Dhivehi and English. But i can understand a little (TINY!) bit of Hindi/Urdu and Arabic. I can read both languages, but i cant understand or speak much. I wish to learn more languages. Especially Hindi/Urdu and  Persian. Will do that hopefully someday. So until then i am depending on blogs, website, forums and comments on social networking sites for my translations. And occasionally some dictionaries and translation tools. So it may not be the best translation always. Suggestions to improve the translations are always welcome. I will give credit to original translators unless ive lost those bookmarks or something. Do let me know it u deserve credit and i haven't given somehow. And thank you all strangers who did these translations. Anonymous and Known people too. Thank You!

Why you do this man? Whaaiyy?!

As ive said before, it is a personal project. Ive been doing this for a long time actually. but i always lose the translations. I usually save it on my desktop (in a txt file) or bookmark the pages, or add that to a personal hidden blog i used to have. So now i want to have it available easily. And when i think about how hard it is to find these translations, i want to help others who are like me who are searching for these translations.  The basic idea is to understand what the poets are saying. Feel it. So, i usually try to give the most literal translation as possible. Sometimes with personal notes here and there.

Anything Else?

Yeah! Most of the stuff i share here will be Qawwalis, Ghazals and Songs. So, i will put a link or embed the Video/Audio of the song. That way, you can discover new music AND understand it too. Feel it. Occasionally i may share English poetry, commentary and maybe my own stuff.  And anything else i wish to! Coz this blog is mine!
